About
Here's some more information about my professional journey.
I graduated in 2010 with a Bachelors in Science Degree in Medical Lab Sciences from JKUAT. I proceeded to secure a job as a medical
lab technologist through till early 2015. I attempted to find opportunities at growth but struggled finding some as research is not a widely set up sector in Kenya. In 2015, I joined the insurance industry as a medical claims analyst.
The organisation I was joining was in the process of phasing out an older system of medical claims analysis and was hiring new analysts to start off with the new system. This was my first encounter with a change management situation
and it peeked my interest. The system was working as intended but had a few hitches. I decided to complement my inexperience in change management by doing a Diploma in Business Processes and Business Management & Enteprenuership from
ALISON. This is when I first came across programing logic and how it is a vital part of Business Processes.Through this, I was able to develop a properly documented process to assist in easing the process of training. It reduced the
training period from 3 weeks to less than a week. I also documented all unique situations and how to best handle them. Compiled a list of medical terminology. And also provided a few feature adjustment requests to customize the site
to serve our needs better and increase the turn-around time for payment of claims. This was implemented successfully and the documents were made accessible to all persons interacting with the system. While getting this done, there
was a great insistence on the value of programing logic in business processes. It was then (early 2017) that I came across the Andela fellowship.
I successfully joined the highly competitive Andela fellowship aimed at creating world class developers and leaders in tech. I was focused on learning and
gaining more experience in creating technology driven solutions to problems. Since then I have worked as a Software Engineer specialising in Python-Flask, Python-Django, FastAPI as my primary stack, and Javascript (mainly the Vue.js
framework) as my secondary stack. I was also in the fellow council leadership member program that acted as a liaison between the fellowship and the leadership[ of Andela. Here we discussed and promoted the best ideas and means to improve
the overall fellowship experience. Other activities involved: interviewing potential candidates for leadership positions in Andela, interacting with Andela’s interested partners and investors and pitching the value of the program to
current and future investors, leaders, members of the board and other interested parties, representing the fellows in discussing matters involving the fellowship with the leadership. I have also worked as a product manager and technical
team lead with Andela’s internal teams and for Andela’s partners, specifically Mobiliti (remote Austin, USA) and Sendwave(remote Maryland, USA).
Other organisations I have worked with are Talent Bridge Africa, Dilecy GmbH (remote Germany) and
Inensus GmbH(remote Germany). Recently, I have expanded my areas of interest into Cybersecurity having recently completed an intense 12 week cybersecurity bootcamp at Ironhack in collaboration with
Cybint with an aim to learn how to build secure platforms.
Since 2020 I have taken career breaks caused by a major medical crisis.
In that time, I have worked to compemsate for the lost time in experience through
I live, thrive and succeed through chronic pain. It is the biggest thing I have ever had to come back from. But I am resilient.
A few more quick facts about me:
- I have led teams of developers and designers through various projects in Andela and as a technical team lead at Mobiliti. I have been responsible for keeping the project timelines managing clients expectations.
- I believe in continuous improvement and learning and I am constantly looking for ways to improve my skills so that I can better support those around me.
- I have a very good grasp of the principles of Computer Science such as the SDLC and Agile framework.
- I am a curious and fast learner with great interest in new experiences and technologies.
